What is the difference between the HOPI-5G-D6 and the HOPI-5G-DM6?

Both are 5G+ HOPI Home Wi-Fi kits, but differ by the number of units included:

  • HOPI-5G-D6 (5G+ HOPI Home Wi-Fi Docking — 2 units): HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi (5G hotspot) + HOPI Home Docking (Wi-Fi 6 base station).
  • HOPI-5G-DM6 (5G+ HOPI Home Wi-Fi Mesh — 3 units): same as above, plus the HOPI Home Mesh Wi-Fi (Mesh satellite node) for whole-home multi-floor coverage.

Both kits share the same Web UI, same firmware, and the same setup process.

How do I set up the HOPI-5G-DM6 for the first time?

  • If you want to use 5G connectivity: first insert your Nano SIM card into the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit (refer to the Quick Installation Guide for the slot location).
  • Insert the battery into the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit.
  • Slide the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit into the dock slot on top of the HOPI Home Docking (wood color panel).
  • If you want to use a wired broadband connection: connect the HOPI Home Docking WAN port (yellow, labeled W/LAN1 or WAN) to a LAN port of your existing modem or Internet box using the supplied 1.5 m Ethernet cable.
  • Connect the supplied USB-C power adapter (9 V / 2.22 A) to the HOPI Home Docking POWER port and plug into a wall outlet.
  • Power on the HOPI Home Docking using the rear POWER button. The HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit powers on automatically when seated in the dock.

Note: Never connect the HOPI Home Docking WAN port to another router's WAN or Internet port. Always use a LAN port on your modem or box.

Can I use the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi away from home as a standalone 5G hotspot?

Yes. Remove the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit from the dock. Press and hold the power button (front) until the 2.4" touchscreen lights up. The unit shares the 5G (or 4G) connection from its SIM card as a Wi-Fi hotspot. Connect your devices to the HOPI Wi-Fi network shown on the screen.

How do I choose between wired broadband and 5G, or set up automatic failover?

From the Home Page, click the My Network area (globe icon) to open the Mode selection pop-up:

  • Internet access: 'Wired Network Priority' — uses the Ethernet WAN as primary, switches to 5G automatically if the wired connection fails. Recommended for home use.
  • Internet access: '5G Priority' — uses 5G as the primary connection.
  • Mode selection: DHCP (default, compatible with most broadband boxes) / PPPoE (enter ISP username and password) / Static IP (enter fixed IP details from your ISP).

Note: If you are unsure which mode your ISP requires, select DHCP. If the Internet indicator remains red after one minute, try PPPoE and enter your ISP credentials.

The 5G failover is not activating when my broadband goes down.

Three conditions must be met simultaneously:

  • Internet access must be set to 'Wired Network Priority' in Mode selection.
  • The HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit must be seated in the HOPI Home Docking, powered on, and have an active Nano SIM with a data plan that allows tethering.
  • There must be sufficient 5G or 4G signal in your location.

How do I send and receive SMS messages?

SMS management is available directly from the touchscreen of the HOPI Mobile Wi-Fi unit: Inbox (received messages), Drafts (compose, edit and save drafts), and Sent (sent messages). An active Nano SIM and mobile network connection are required. Note that data-only SIM plans may not include SMS.

How do I restore the HOPI-5G-DM6 to factory default settings?

  • Via the Web UI: click Restore Factory (top-right of any page). Confirm the pop-up. The device resets and restarts automatically (~166 seconds).
  • Via the physical button: with the HOPI Home Docking powered on, insert a pin into the RESET pinhole on the rear panel and hold for 5–10 seconds. Release when the LED blinks.

Warning: Factory reset permanently and irreversibly erases ALL settings: Web UI password, Wi-Fi credentials, firewall rules, IP reservations, Mesh configuration, parental controls, and scheduled tasks.
