What should I do after the firmware update?

To check that the update was successful:

• Log back in to http://strong.500.ap or 192.168.1.254.
• The new firmware version number is displayed on the home page or in the Status / System Information section.
• Compare it to the version shown on the download page at www.strong-eu.com. If they match, the update completed successfully.

In most cases, a firmware update keeps your existing configuration (Wi-Fi name, password and other settings) intact.

How do I update the firmware?

Before you start, you need:

• A computer connected to the Powerline Wi-Fi network (STRONG_xxxx_2.4GHz or STRONG_xxxx_5GHz), or connected via an Ethernet cable directly to the Wi-Fi powerline adapter.
• The firmware file for the PLW1000SDUO, downloaded from www.strong-eu.com/downloads.
• Both powerline adapters powered on and plugged in throughout the entire update.

Note: For maximum reliability, use a computer connected via Ethernet cable to the Wi-Fi adapter rather than over Wi-Fi. This prevents any risk of the connection dropping during the upload. As a precaution, write down your Wi-Fi name and password before updating, in case a reset is required.

1Download the firmware file

Go to www.strong-eu.com/downloads and search for your product: PLW1000SDUO. Download the latest firmware file for this model and save it to your computer. Do not rename or unzip it.

2Access the management interface

Connect your computer to the Powerline Wi-Fi network, or via Ethernet cable to the Wi-Fi adapter. Open a web browser and go to http://strong.500.ap, or type the IP address 192.168.1.254 in the address bar. On the login page, enter the password admin, then click Sign in.

Note: If you cannot reach the interface, make sure you are connected to the Wi-Fi adapter (not only the base adapter). If the issue persists, see the FAQ about connecting to the user interface.

3Open the firmware page

Click Upgrade Firmware in the menu.

4Upload the file

Click Select file (or Browse) and select the firmware file you downloaded. Then click Upload (or Upgrade) to start the update.

5Wait for the installation

Wait for the upload and installation to complete. The adapter restarts automatically. This takes approximately 2–3 minutes. Once restarted, the LEDs return to their normal state.

The PLW1000SDUO kit contains two adapters: a base adapter (connected to the router) and a Wi-Fi adapter (which broadcasts the Wi-Fi signal). The firmware update is performed via the web interface of the Wi-Fi adapter. The base adapter may receive its update automatically when the two adapters communicate after the Wi-Fi adapter update. If in doubt, contact STRONG support.

Warning: NEVER disconnect the power or unplug any powerline adapter during the firmware update. This can permanently damage the device and voids the warranty.

What should I do if the firmware update does not work?

The update failed or the adapter is not responding after the update

• Do not disconnect the power. Wait at least 5 minutes for any pending process to complete.
• Try accessing http://strong.500.ap or 192.168.1.254 again. If the interface loads, repeat the firmware update from step 1.
• If the adapter is still unresponsive after 5 minutes, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If the problem persists, contact STRONG support at www.strong-eu.com.

The Upgrade Firmware option does not appear in the menu

• Make sure you are connected to the Wi-Fi adapter interface, not the base adapter.
• Try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page.
• Use a different browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended).
• Verify you are logged in with the correct password (default: admin).

I get an error saying the firmware file is incompatible

The firmware file must exactly match the model PLW1000SDUO. Download it again from www.strong-eu.com/downloads, selecting this exact model. Do not use firmware for a different product or a different hardware revision.

Why should I update the firmware of my PLW1000SDUO?

Firmware updates improve the stability, security and performance of your Powerline 1000 Duo Wi-Fi. They may fix known issues, improve Wi-Fi speed and range, or address security vulnerabilities. It is recommended to install available updates.
